Following a mild winter, vine sprouting at Castiglioni occurred in early April, a few days earlier than normal. April overall was clear and rather cool, contributing to moderate growth in a dry environment. Flowering occurred the last week of May, a period during which the weather was always clear and slightly breezy; this led to excellent fruit set. A few showers of moderate intensity were recorded from April to August, with some slight peaks in June; during the months of vegetative expression, water resources were always proportionate to need (no drought but no excess water either). The veraison, which occurred starting in the last week of August, was followed by gradual ripening during September. Harvesting, for Sangiovese and Merlot, began from mid-September. The fruits were wonderfully concentrated and of excellent aromatic intensity.

Maturation: 6 months in steel and one period in bottle
Tasting notes: Chianti Castiglioni 2020 is a wine with a beautiful ruby red colour with purple hues. Its bouquet is pleasantly fruity, with notes reminiscent of strawberry, morello cherry, raspberry and fig; the fruit is accompanied by beautiful floral and Mediterranean scents. The delicate spicy note is also pleasant, with elegant hints of pepper and clove. In the mouth it is marked by a beautiful vivacity. The finish is long, sharp and delicate, with a remarkable correspondence of taste and smell.
Food pairing: Savoury dishes such as pappardelle with meat sauce, but also roast chicken, beef strips with vegetables and some semi-mature cheese.
